Section 1

You will hear a conversation between a volunteer, Daniel, and a charity event coordinator, Mrs Peters, about planning a charity run.
Mrs Peters: Good morning, this is the Riverside Charity office, Sarah Peters speaking. How can I help you?
Daniel: Hi, my name's Daniel Foster. I'd like to register as a volunteer for the charity run next month.
Mrs Peters: Wonderful, Daniel. We always need extra hands. Could I take a few details first? Can you spell your surname for me?
Daniel: Yes, it's Foster — F-O-S-T-E-R.
Mrs Peters: Thank you. And the event itself, just so you have the details, is taking place on Saturday the fourteenth of June. It starts quite early, so volunteers need to arrive by half past seven in the morning.
Daniel: Half past seven, got it. And where exactly is the run being held?
Mrs Peters: The starting point is at Greenfield Park, near the main entrance. The route goes along the river and finishes back at the park.
Daniel: That sounds lovely. How long is the actual course?
Mrs Peters: The full run is ten kilometres, but there's also a shorter family route of three kilometres for children and beginners.
Daniel: I see. What would I be doing as a volunteer?
Mrs Peters: There are several roles. Some people help with registration in the morning, others hand out water at the drink stations along the route. We also need a few volunteers to give out medals at the finish line.
Daniel: I think I'd prefer to be at one of the water stations, actually. I like being out on the course.
Mrs Peters: That's fine, I'll put you down for that. You'll be working with a partner, and we provide everything you need — cups, bottles, and a high-visibility jacket.
Daniel: Great. Is there anything I should bring myself?
Mrs Peters: Just comfortable shoes and a hat if it's sunny. Oh, and don't forget to bring some water for yourself too. Lunch will be provided afterwards for all the volunteers.
Daniel: Perfect. How much money are you hoping to raise this year?
Mrs Peters: Our target is fifteen thousand pounds. Last year we managed twelve thousand, so we're feeling ambitious. All the money goes towards the local children's hospital.
Daniel: That's a great cause. Should I attend any kind of training beforehand?
Mrs Peters: Yes, there's a short briefing session the evening before, on Friday the thirteenth, at the community centre. It begins at six o'clock and lasts about an hour.
Daniel: I'll make sure I'm there. And how can people donate if they can't take part?
Mrs Peters: They can donate online through our website, or by phone. The easiest way is the website.
Daniel: Thanks so much, Mrs Peters. I'm really looking forward to it.
Mrs Peters: We're delighted to have you, Daniel. I'll send a confirmation email with all the details this afternoon.
