Section 1

You will hear a phone conversation between a woman and a member of staff at a language school about booking a language course.
Receptionist: Good morning, Riverside Language Centre, this is Mark speaking. How can I help you?
Woman: Hello, I'd like to ask about booking a Spanish course, please.
Receptionist: Of course. Are you a complete beginner, or have you studied Spanish before?
Woman: I did a little at school, but that was years ago, so I'd say I'm pre-intermediate at best.
Receptionist: That's fine. We can arrange a short placement test before you start. Could I take some details first? What's your full name?
Woman: Yes, it's Helen Garcia. That's G-A-R-C-I-A.
Receptionist: Thank you. And a contact number?
Woman: It's 07746 339201.
Receptionist: Let me read that back: 07746 339201. Lovely. Now, our most popular option is the evening course, which runs twice a week. The other option is the intensive weekend course.
Woman: I work full time, so the evening one sounds better. Which evenings does it run?
Receptionist: That group meets on Tuesday and Thursday, from seven until half past eight.
Woman: Perfect. And how long is the whole course?
Receptionist: The standard term is ten weeks. After that you can renew if you'd like to continue.
Woman: Ten weeks, okay. Can I ask about the cost?
Receptionist: Certainly. The full fee is 320 pounds, but if you pay before the first lesson there's an early-bird discount, bringing it down to 280 pounds.
Woman: I'll definitely pay early then. Does that include the textbook?
Receptionist: The book isn't included, I'm afraid. You'll need to buy it separately, and it costs 25 pounds. We sell it at reception.
Woman: Right. Is there anything I should bring to the first session?
Receptionist: Just a notebook and a pen, really. Oh, and please bring some form of photo identification for registration.
Woman: A notebook and pen, and photo ID. Got it. Where exactly are you located?
Receptionist: We're on Mill Road, opposite the public library. The nearest car park is behind the supermarket, about a two-minute walk away.
Woman: That's helpful. When does the new course begin?
Receptionist: The next term starts on the fourteenth of March. I'd recommend booking soon, as places fill up quickly.
Woman: I'll send the payment today then. How do I make the booking official?
Receptionist: Just complete the form on our website, and we'll email you a confirmation within two days.
Woman: Wonderful. Thank you so much for your help, Mark.
Receptionist: You're very welcome, Helen. We look forward to seeing you in March.
